Local police revisited Woodlands Park and Hawthorne Grove on 25th November and attended to the issue of bad parking. One driver was issued with a ticket for causing and unnecessary obstruction, whilst plenty of others were advised on how and where to park safely. All drivers who were not registered at the addresses were asked to move to prevent further obstructions.

PARKING PROBLEMS

Parking in the vicinity of Runnymede school and St.Edwards  school is becoming an increasing problem. Woodlands Park, Hawthorne Grove, North Drive and now College Court are feeling the brunt of the excessive and inconsiderate parking by parents' dropping off/picking up their children from the schools. Historically,  there has always been a level of heavy parking, the problem is worsening year on year. The situation has been compounded by the closure of the car park located at the CI club. This is due to Runnymede being transferred into a  public school and now not having any facility with the CI club to remunerate any costs in association with parents. The CI Club are also under stricter insurance rules. SPRC are committed to try and resolve these issues and will be working with the schools, local council, police and the CI club over the coming weeks. These issues were also discussed at the latest AGM meeting. If a resident would like to make a comment or put forward a suggest please contact us here

The roads within the park are private roads. Residents can politely ask drivers to stop parking in specific areas.

Parking within the park has often given cause for concern. St Edwards College & Runnymede School are situated on North Drive and thus invite a lot of school traffic. Whilst it is accepted by the residents that parents do require areas to drop and pick up their children, road safety should always be forthright in everyone's mind.  The roads' committee are working closely with the college and the school to try and promote a sensible approach to parking. Bollards have been placed along a section of North Drive with a view to stop double parking, kerb parking and  prevent potential hazards. The speed of the traffic has reduced, which provides a safety aspect for the pupils attending the school and college.

Pedestrian crossings are situated at the entrance and exit gates of the school. It is important these areas are kept clear at all times to prevent a danger to pupils and general public. White Zig Zag lines are classed as a dual enforcement restriction.

As parking on white zig zag lines puts pedestrians at risk, police/PEO's will almost always issue a FPN without exceptions. Unlike yellow zig zag lines, there are no exceptions to stopping on white zig zag lines (other than to wait for pedestrians). The Fixed Penalty Notice issued by the police is £100 with 3 penalty points.

Residents occasionally need to use traffic cones to control potential hazards and safeguard parking spaces outside their property. It is hoped that with the help of the school, parents respect the residents' situation and to not move placed cones.

Coaches & Buses

The schools have agreed with operators to inform their drivers to use the designated parking points situated on the lower end of North Drive adjacent to the playing field, from Eaton Road. Drivers should not park directly outside the school gates to disembark and embark passengers, as this causes unnecessary congestion and frustration to other road users.
